Harvest Operations Tour

  • Maitland Bridge Hall 701 Nova Scotia Trunk 8 Nova Scotia, NS, B0T 1B0 Canada (map)

Join Matt Miller (MCFC's new general manager), Jennika Hunsinger (Land trust and outreach manager) and Board Members out in field!

We're so excited to host an operations tour again and look forward to chatting with you as we visit a number of different stand types and forest restoration challenges! Site stops may be adjusted if there is an active harvest at the time worth popping in on - we'll let registrants know!

We'd like to showcase a recent harvest where we have completed our first special management trial for at-risk bird in partnership with Dr. Cindy Staicer at Dalhousie University. Last spring we placed remote acoustic monitoring devices in all of our upcoming harvest sites and Cindy's team found a Species at Risk (SAR) bird in nearly every block. Knowing the bird is there if the first step to protecting and promoting it's preferred habitat.

Overall, throughout the tour we'd like to hear from you and share strategies to promote uneven-aged, diverse, healthy forests as we restore stands from past intensive management practices. Let's bring the community together around ecosystem-based forestry...
